We recently moved into a new house and I could not for the life of me figure out what material the new countertops were made from. After spending a bunch of time trying to figure it out myself reading around, I caved and went ahead and just posted on the r/countertops subreddit. Within ten minutes I had multiple very informative answers with a consensus identifying the material and some extremely helpful care and maintenance tips. Moments like this really yank me out of my puritanical luddism and help me remember how useful the tools of the information era can be when they aren't tainted by attention farming and the infinite scroll. I know Reddit as a platform isn't anywhere near a shining example of this (it's many of my friends' scroll drug of choice), but for how I use it (mostly dad project tips and homeowner questions) it really does an incredible job of helping me connect with people and information that would be near… No comments yet.
