Linux for Mac Users

My new year’s resolution was to jump in on the “year of the Linux desktop.” If I were coming over from Windows and my needs are mostly gaming and browser usage, I would have been set up and underway by January. Unfortunately I’m one of those many Mac users that has been captured by the hold Apple has on the creative industries. As a filmmaker, I’m not afraid of a little tech friction, but it needs to be the right kind. I already have the friction of overdelivering ahead of schedule for clients, grantors, and funders. So sitting down at a workstation needs to be a relief from those stakes, not an obstacle to be overcome. It might be a hot take, but when I see those FOSS lists of The Best Open Source Alternatives they are often creative apps with a steep learning curve, stability challenges, a lack of industry feedback, and a user experience that leaves creative Mac users wanting.
