Same place, same curse, different protagonist—and a brand new feature. Set one year after the events of the first game, Nanashi no Game Me gets its unusual title (“Me” as in “The Japanese word for ‘eye’ “) from an early ghostly incident: specifically, my brand new and now exclusively male renamable avatar has their left eye squished in a spiritual way by a ghost rising out of a cursed DS in a manner that suggests somebody on the development team saw The Ring the day before this scene was created. This cursed eyeball—my left DS screen when held vertically—is now able to pick up spooky and otherwise unseen clues. Thanks to this novel idea I can literally catch something out of the corner of my eye, can only notice ghostly handprints or a ghoulish Regret if I slightly look away. It’s an inventive use of the hardware, for a short while. The most basic feature of this eye is its ability to detect whenever a Regret’s nearby, the view on that screen distorting, the strength of the effect…
