For once, my reading plans are actually proceeding as expected. My first read for Women in Translation Month is a book which was on my pile of possibles and is a relatively recent arrival – “The Crib” by Albertine Sarrazin, translated by Sonya Moor. I first read Sarrazin back in 2019 for the #1965Club; the book was her most famous, “Astragal“, and although I initially was a bit hesitant about it, it eventually got very much under my skin. I said at the time that I’d like to read more of her work, but there doesn’t seem to be much in translation. However, last year when I was ordering a copy of Nicholas Royle’s “ Paris Fantastique” directly from Confingo Publishing, I noticed that they were also releasing this new collection of Sarrazin’s short works, so it obviously got added to my order – and it turned out to be perfect for #WITMonth!
