Film series, collections of essays by his colleagues and friends, many of whom he never met but whose lives were touched by him, and even the naming of institutions for him and me. (One such event will take place in September, and I shall blog about it then.) Scholars around the world have helped to explain the facets of his complex career and its impact on the field. One major recent tribute is the latest issue of Projections, the journal of the Society for the Cognitive Study of the Moving Image. David helped found this organization, which is still thriving. He attended the annual conferences as long as he was able to. The March, 2026 issue explores the various aspects of David’s devotion to this particular approach to cinema studies.
