Climate Crisis and Psychiatric Patients

Yesterday, I sent a friend who works in a hospital in Scotland the Egyptian Ministry of Health's guidelines for managing psychiatric inpatients during heatwaves. These guidelines were developed and circulated following the deaths of 10 patients from heat-related complications in 2015. These are mostly low-cost interventions like: keeping patients hydrated provide cool areas limit sun exposure lower antipsychotic doses to the minimum needed and avoid long‑acting forms stop the drug if core temperature rises and refer quickly to other specialties if symptoms don't improve Managers should keep their phones on at all times These measures were successful in preventing similar deaths and the MoH has been keen on sending out the measures to their hospitals every year. I would have never thought that countries so far north would have to deal with such conditions. Can't imagine what we will face this year or the next 🤦
