Out of the drafts and into… About a thousand million years ago, I decided to follow up my mildly creepy little C64 text adventure Escape the Dragon Caves with a lighter sci-fi offering, written for the same hardware. Everything went pretty well I thought, until it didn’t. But the great thing about ideas—especially ideas that mostly exist in a notebook I can leave lying around the house—is that I can come back to them whenever I have the time, will, and courage/stupidity to try again. Like now, for instance. So, again, I present you with what I always imagined as a lost low budget ’80s BBC weekend special, Terror of the Alien Mindmasters. Only this time there’s a finished piece of interactive fiction at the bottom waiting for you to play it instead of an apology. It’s also something you can run directly in your browser (PC/iOS tested) and play with one finger, instead of needing to find a C64 emulator and bother typing in an N to head North. Neat.
