There was a rather smooth transition from the elevated linear park into one of the newest developments in New York City. The entire development is well executed and gives the impression of coordinated urban planning, which sometimes sounds like an oxymoron. In addition to the tall and slender mix of skyscrapers at Hudson Yards, there are two notable architectural landmarks. The puffy metal building on the left is The Shed, one of the most unique performing arts centers in New York. To the right is Vessel, perhaps the centerpiece of the development, a climbable sculpture that has become one of the city’s most recognizable contemporary landmarks, shown in more detail below. Our destination was the shopping mall to the right, out of view. We were looking forward to dinner at a Spanish-focused food hall unlike any we had experienced in Austin.
