OpenWRT on an EdgeRouter X

One of my favourite network devices in my posession is my Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X, a small router that I have been using to tunnel homelab traffic to-and-from my main network. While I'm quite a fan of this device, I found that some of Ubiquiti's opinions on how it should work were getting in my way. So began the short journey of making this thing run OpenWRT. A two-step migration I don't think I have ever had an OpenWRT install actually end up being a simple "one click and you are done" process. That being said, this one works out pretty well. To get from EdgeOS to a modern OpenWRT install, we need to perform two upgrades: Get the ER-X running a somewhat-ancient OpenWRT version Perform a re-partition and upgrade to a modern OpenWRT version EdgeOS to OpenWRT Flash limits mean that the ER-X can't easily hold everything we need for the upgrade in one go.
