I was recently coerced and bamboozled into reactivating my Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) account. The last (?) time I had played I made a new character and started on a new server and quickly learned that, while FFXIV does a pretty great job at cross-server play, cross-region play is so convoluted it may as well be non-existent. On this go around the first thing I did was pack up Lizzy’s belongings and move her over to the European server region. Since it was the Gamers’ Tavern (TGT) crew that twisted my arm this time, and due to the majority of TGT, at least the ones interested in playing FFXIV, being based across Europe, the move made sense in my brain. The fact that I’m an East Coast early riser also tends to align slightly better with the time zone shifts. I tend to be online earlier than most Americans but during prime time across the pond. My primary concern, of course, was latency, but so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised. With the exception of a few minor hitches here and there…
