Life is a horror story. Human beings are born in a bloody process, and there are a million miserable ways to die. Lucky people die suddenly after a long life with fewer of the horrifying events than the average person suffers through during their time on earth. But most of us won’t be so fortunate. Most people suffer a continuing series of terrible events before enduring a demoralizing decline in their health until their pathetic end. Rachel Madow, some liberal pundit, once expressed her opposition to lethal injection because the executed prisoners gasp and struggle for breath. What a ridiculous and naive point of view. That’s what death is like for most people. Every day, tens of thousands of ancient people in nursing homes gasp and struggle for breath during their dying hours. In nature monstrous nearly brainless automatons kill pretty birds that far surpass their intelligence. Birds have emotional feelings; arthropods do not.
