FairEmail (app review)

★★★★☆ An extremely capable, privacy-respecting, no-frills email app for Android. Works with any email service that supports IMAP/POP and SMTP (including Gmail and Outlook, but not Exchange). Works well with multiple accounts and a unified inbox. It’s also got cool features like telling you whether it can confirm a message actually came from its purported source (using SPF, DKIM, DMARC). And it can do encrypted messages with OpenPGP or S/MIME, though I haven’t tried it. The main downside is that it’s cluttered: the folder view, and especially the settings and options. It’s kind of like the old days of Linux applications where you could configure just about everything, but you had to go through 25 pages of settings to find it. Fortunately you don’t have to change settings very often! I ran it in parallel with K-9 Mail for a while, and ultimately decided to stick with K-9 for my main accounts.
