The MLB trade deadline expired yesterday. Here are my thoughts: Acquiring Skubal makes the Dodgers rotation godly (if healthy), but maybe more importantly, it prevented the Brewers from landing a second ace. Miz and Skubal in a 5 or even 7-game playoff series would have been diabolical. The Brewers disappointed by not going out and grabbing Skubal (they absolutely have the ammunition to have beaten the Dodgers offer). However, I think that can work wonders with Dustin May. The Orioles giving up on Rutschman feels like the end of an era, but it’s difficult to blame them given the haul they received. I don’t think the Phillies got better. That defense will be atrocious. I don’t mind the Jays selling and buying. This is not their year, but they certainly have the pieces to compete in ’27 and ’28. Good on the Cubs for revamping their pitching staff. Embracing the rebuild is absolutely the right move for the Angels. They did well this deadline.
