Rest in peace, Om Malik

I only just read the news!? What a loss :(. I first learned of Om through his news site GigaOm, and his appearances on the Cranky Geeks show back in the day. I remember being surprised at the civil comments GigaOm stories attracted, which I attributed to the quality of the journalism and lack of clickbait. In later years I especially followed him for his photography. I was lucky to have a few conversations with him on Twitter too back in the day. One in particular I remember was scheming with him to teach his American friends about cricket. I even came close to meeting him when I briefly worked in San Francisco in the late 2010s, but a work issue pulled me away. He was one of the good ones. By Ruben Schade in Sydney, 2026-08-03.
