book review: weekend language

This was a hard one to get through honestly. It's one of those books that presents a lot of old ideas as if they were just discovered. With a title like this I thought it would really go for something new and provocative. When the title of your book attempts to create a new phrase to frame an idea, one that you assume folks will say out loud and tell their friends and colleagues about, that idea and framing is typically something brand new. That's just not the case here. Instead we essentially got "practice, prepare, tell stories, and use words people understand.". Maybe it's because I always try to talk to people in the simplest terms possible and tell a story, but there were no big revelations in this book for me. I also wasn't a huge fan of the writing style. It sort of had the tone of those motivational speakers that would visit high schools and try to win everyone over by "talking like the kids".
