Browsing the Web with Helium

Browsing the Web with Helium 4 August, 2026 I wasn’t looking for a new web browser1. In fact, I’ve been perfectly happy using LibreWolf. Having said that, I’ve been hearing about browser called Helium for a little while now and recently decided to give it a peek. Let’s look at my experiences with the Linux version of Helium. A Little About Helium Unlike most of the browsers for Linux desktop that I’ve used over the last few years, Helium is a derivative of Chromium (which is the basis of the web browser created by a certain search engine/ad company) rather than of Firefox. Helium claims to have better security and overall experience than Chrome2. On top that, it retains integration with the popular ad blocker extension called uBlock Origin. The extension which the other browser (and one of its derivatives) dropped. While I can’t speak about Helium’s claims of better security, I’ll give its developers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to that. Overall, though, Helium is faster…
