Quantum-resistance just sounds like something that couldn’t possibly apply to printing, and in so far as we focus on the putting of ink onto paper, it doesn’t. But almost all printers now live in a digital world — almost every print job now travels from buyer to printer online, and thus is in theory hackable, as also are the printer’s entire in-house operating systems. So the quantum resistance referred to is resistance to the super decrypting abilities of a quantum computer. It often seems like it’s been easy enough to hack into computer systems with our current computation abilities. Many printing companies have suffered from attacks on their computer systems, leading to ransom demands, or just interruption of service, followed by damaging backlogs. Any quantum computer will apparently have such computing power that today’s most sophisticated protective systems will appear almost invisible.
