There are those games one hears the concept of and is immediately intrigued: a new title in GMT’s Irregular Conflicts Series (ICS) that is semi-cooperative and instead of some battle that happened a long time ago is set in the relatively recent history of the Bronx? A designer that prefers to stay anonymous and thus works under a pseudonym? An awesome cover to set the mood? There is just a lot about this game that feels different. Count me in! From the onset though, CBE has a number of things stacked against it: most of my attempts to get into publisher GMT Games’ offerings have failed so far, usually due to rulebooks that for some reason seem to vehemently ignore all progress in teaching games that has been made in the Euro game sphere during the past decades.
