Day 170: Chip Off the Block

2026-07-26Hello! I'm struggling with today's writing topic; despite already running late, I would have written a shorter letter if only I had a longer time to do so.I'd like to say I analyze every part of an image frame before I take the shot in camera. But my eyes rest on different parts depending on if I'm creating the image as an artist or viewing it as a passerby.During the camera setup and editing process, my eyes scan the edges of frame more than anywhere else. I'm trying to eliminate all the distractions that anyone else could mistake for something of interest. I might reframe my camera, crop it out, or adjust its color to be less noticeable. Someone has to decide where the focal point is, and that onus rests on the artist.But when I "consume" content, I'm staying passive, letting the image or medium determine where my eyes should be drawn to. Usually, it's going to be some bright spot, or some object in the center of frame. I'm not noticing the edges of frame because it's rare…
