My Own Failure The Second Coming Meanwhile Broader Story So What This may seem simplistic and superficial, and if not that, then almost tautological—and at least has the virtue of relative brevity, for once—but I want to suggest that the last decades of political positioning by those in the United States with progressive views has given conservatives and regressives the space to metastasize into what we see today. I didn’t make the connection until recently, but I see two ideas bracketing this. On one hand, way back when I posted on Quora and characterized somebody’s nationalistic, ethnocentric, or otherwise chauvinistic as right-wing nonsense, I’d consistently get the same response, no matter who I responded to. Actually, I consider myself more of a centrist. Billionaires say this sort of thing a lot, too.
