London Terrace – New York, New York I don’t remember what attracted me to this scene. Was it the warm afternoon light or this massive apartment complex? I shot a few compositions, some in portrait orientation. Still, I settled on a wide-angle landscape perspective to include the cross streets and neighborhood details. Notice the wonderful leading line along West 23rd Street? What I didn’t realize until I looked at this picture again is how massive this structure is. You can see at least six nearly identical buildings down 23rd Street. I didn’t know the name of this building, so I popped this picture into ChatGPT, where it told me it was the London Terrace. Built between 1929 and 1930, it was the largest apartment building in the world when completed. It occupies an entire city block from 23rd to 24th Street and stretches from 9th to 10th Avenue.
