In the early days of high school, I knew what I wanted to do as a job. I had a hobby, though, and figured that it could be developed into a type of thing I would do on the side. You see, like most 15-year-olds, my taste in music was so much better than yours or anyone else’s, that I regarded my opinion on the matter as something that needed to be shared with a wider audience. Obviously, that was not true. In hindsight, I did have a somewhat eclectic taste, but that was because I listened to Brave New Waves, read Pitchfork, had friends with eclectic tastes, and a parent who listened to country and bluegrass music. For better or for worse, I did come to the realization that reviewing was not something for me. I did submit the occasional reader review to a magazine from time to time, and was quoted once, but I left it at that.
