I enjoy taking photos of infrastructure, and when I was in my hometown stomping grounds I took some photos of powerlines in the area. I have always found powerlines to be fascinating; I believe this particular type of installation are referred to as an “H” design, even though there’s one side of the “H” taller than the other. The pole(s) on the right are a recent replacement for the older poles that were installed sometime in the mid 20th century. Best guess would be in the late 1950s or early 1960s. While the local power company at the time, Niagara Mohawk, was fastidious about making sure all of the installations looked the same when it came to pole height, etc., the contractors hired to install replacements didn’t pay as close attention and the shorter pole tends to be of a random length. They also don’t double the crossarms like on the original install. To me it just looks cheaper. I remember poles being installed into the 2000s that followed the original design seen on the left.…
