Day 168: Nothing Matters More Than the Light

2026-07-24Hello! I said I would present some street photography this week, but that's not happening. Might be delayed for a short while.In the meantime: here's a bird — a titmouse — eating from my backyard bird feeder. Yes, I've filled it since then. Squirrels get to it all the time.I have my camera set up on a tripod aimed right against a window looking to the bird feeder. Any time a bird perches on the bird feeder, I press the shutter button and hope that everything is in focus. It's not quite automatic, but I set it up and just wait for the right timing while I get my work done.While I've seen videos and read articles about professional photographers using motion-sensing cameras (or wildlife trap accessories?), it seems a bit overkill for me. The camera is still indoors, shooting through a window. So long as I don't make sudden movements, the birds don't notice and flee.In post processing, I set most of the image monochrome, save for the one patch of light reflected off the…
