When family comes to visit, a wealthy matriarch takes a fall down the stairs, which she later realizes wasn’t an accident at all. Dumb Witness is Agatha Christie’s seventeenth Hercule Poirot novel. I like the Poirot and Hastings rapport. Hastings isn’t too dense in this one, and he has some funny moments with Bob the Dog. The plot has some good fakeouts, but I found the narrative a bit misleading at times.1 ....... Spoilers below ↓ ....... Spoilers: The murderer as described in the denouement is entirely different from the character described earlier in the story. There should be foreshadowing there. ↩︎
