Today I and a bunch of other authors learned that Science Fiction Weekly has reprinted stories from Daily Science Fiction. My story “Kill Switch” is among those reprinted without permission. I have already emailed nastygrams and DMCA takedown notices, and I know I am not alone. Science Fiction Weekly describes itself thusly: Daily Science Fiction is deeply missed, but that’s where the truth of this statement ends. Authors have not been asked for consent to reprint their works. And if Science Fiction Weekly aspires to be a new Daily Science Fiction, publishing “new work on a regular cadence,” then they need to start paying professional rates for their fiction. This is also an outright lie: It’s obvious that Science Fiction Weekly simply scraped the web; there’s no curation involved (except for the work of DSF‘s editors). There is no contact form on the website, just a means to create an account and submit a story. (Needless to say, do not submit a story.) I don’t know who’s behind this…
