Stake-outs are the worst part of my job. I’m too easily distracted. If I do a crossword puzzle or text on my phone while sitting in the car, there’s a good chance a cheating husband walks right by me, grinning and tucking in his shirttail. Contrary to the exciting lives of television detectives, real investigations consist of a lot of sitting on your butt in a cluttered car, looking at your watch, and drinking cold coffee.I check my watch for the hundredth time, wondering how long I should wait before calling it a night. Another unfortunate trait of cheating husbands⁠—and wives⁠—is they tend to do their extracurricular activities at night. While I enjoy a night out as much as the next guy, any more of this night stalking and my behind will be the same shape as the car seat.I flip open the case folder and stare at the allegedly adulterous husband. Mr. Paraday looks like a nice guy. He could be your local banker or congressman; mid-thirties, brown hair, green eyes. Still in good shape…
