Three Things Thursday: Claude and Company

As I start to work toward the start of the fall semester, I’m also trying to wrap up some summer research (and will have an invigorating “research sprint” the week when I get back) and finish up some assignments for my fall classes. This week’s Three Things Thursday is a bit all over the place, which is pretty much how I feel right now. Thing the First I continue to mess around with Claude and data. This past week, I fed Claude the 1930-1950 census for Grand Forks, North Dakota. Years ago, I started the onerous process of cleaning up the census data and locating the addresses on the modern map of the city. Some of this work involves creating digital maps of neighborhoods destroyed over the last 50 years with the most recently being demolished during the 1997. This was just before Grand Forks had a fully functioning GIS and as a result, the USGS maps from before the flood exist largely on paper (which thankfully have been scanned and can be easily georeferenced).
