We select and surround ourselves with objects that speak to or for us, whether we are aware of it or not.” – Samantha Sotto Yambao, Water Moon, pg. 139 These days, I am thinking again about the beauty of everyday objects, of creating a house that looks good. I look around my room and imagine what it would look like if we moved the furniture around. What my window would look like with white, lacey curtains that would let in shimmering light, make intricate shadows on my bed, and billow high over my head, the wind pushing it away to run its fingers over my sleeping face.I think about the colors of my bedsheet and my pillow cover, the various jars and glass bottles holding money plants around our house, another attempt I could make at having a flower pot in my window. I am thinking about ceramic bowls, plates, and mugs, matched in their mismatching designs. Every day, the house becomes a mess. Every day, someone has to put the books…
