The is a certain joy I get when working on a hardware project. The smell of flux burning, solder meltying, the 3d printer bristtlebotting its way off the table. It’s the absolute best feeling. Software development is fun hardware feels like an extra sprinkle of magic. Perhaps its the joy of working on something physical that I can hold in my hands. Perhaps its the hard in hardware making it just that much more satisfying. Whatever it may be, I can spend so much more time on hardware projects than software. I have been working working on my meltybrain combat robot the past 4ish weeks and I’ve poured well over 130 hours into it. I’ve never been able to pour that much time into a software project (outside of work ig but that doesn’t count) and especially not in that condensed of a timeframe. Software feels too easy at times. You can have 100% test coverage and formally verify that the project will do exactly what you want it to do. Most new features can be completed fairly quickly.…
