Falling into what might be called female intuition, the legitimacy of art, and archetypes of the modern world, I am starting with a scan of lessons I’ve absorbed over the years about art and writing. Unit Readings: Old in Art School — Nell Painter Women Who Run With the Wolves — Clarissa Pinkola Estés Why these two together Nell Painter wrote a memoir of her experience in studying art later in life. She was in her sixties when she decided to go to art school, and in the book she is told both implicitly and explicitly that she doesn’t belong. Women Who Run with Wolves is a collection of stories and texts that Clarissa Pinkola Estés pulls together to examine archetypes and associations with feminine perspectives. With these archetypes and the myths surrounding them, Estés starts to make an argument for the reconnection of creative instincts to ancient intuitions.
