536. Holyhead to Trearddur Bay

July 2014 I didn’t have far to travel for this walk as neither the start or end point was far from the campsite I was staying at. I opted to drive down to Trearddur Bay a short distance away and then took a bus into Holyhead, which only took about 10 minutes. Another reason for doing this walk is I’d start at Holyhead rather than end there! I started from by the station with a view across the harbour at Holyhead. This is a busy port with ferries to Ireland and traffic to and from the boats goes over the bridge ahead. I then followed the main road beside the port. In the harbour was one of the Stena Line HSS ferries. These were amazing ships, the fastest high speed ferries in the world when introduced and used to make the crossing to Dún Laoghaire in 99 minutes. Sadly over the years the ferries were slowed down and reduced in frequency (from 5 return trips per day to just one). It was withdrawn from service a couple of months after I took this photo and this route stopped running…
