A big hollywood blockbuster adaptation of homer’s epic, where we follow Sad Damon around the aegean from woe to woe. Probably not for the purist but I found it absolute eye-glue. Amazing scenery, actors, costumes, and the monsters were fantastic. The way Polyphemus the cyclops was designed was brilliant, as was the terrifying Scylla. The animatronics with Circe and the pigs was a truly genius bit of film-making. In preparation for this film I Read the odyssey Listened to a dozen podcasts about it Moved to Greece Joined an odyssey book club A lot of people and racists are complaining on line about the wooden dialogue, diversity, straying from the original and so on but I think if you can’t enjoy the spectacle then you’re a big lame square. I would slightly agree about the lack of sex and humour, and if anything Odysseus should have been much more of a violent and sexy bastard.
