Keigo Higashino

I was sad to hear about Keigo Higashino’s death. Just a few days ago I was in the bookstore browsing his latest works in translation and looking forward to reading them soon. With the next book in the Detective Galileo series due out later this year, it feels quite surreal that he has left us so suddenly, although, of course, as a reader, you don’t know anything about the course of illness in a writer’s personal life. In any case, I love his works and I wanted to take a moment to write about them. Unusually—especially since I am a big mystery fan—I didn’t come to Keigo Higashino through Suspect X. The first of his books I read was Miracles of the Namiya General Store, which I picked up after I watched the movie. To date, I think it is maybe still the most me-catered of Higashino’s oeuvre; I don’t know that it is the best or the one I would recommend to most people, but it is the one that is closest to my heart.
