Yet very much unlike last time, the expected post-voice clip pleasure doesn’t come so quickly or easily. Where did the enthusiastic guitar music and excitable commentator go? Where are my Sega-blue skies and bat filled castles? Where’s the breathless arcade atmosphere, everything as big, bright, and busy as it could possibly be? It’s safe to say that first impressions of Get Bass 2 aren’t exactly positive, and my kneejerk reaction is to wonder who would dare surgically remove all the fun and colour from the sequel to my favourite fishing game. But that’s not a fair grumble, not really. While a part of me will always want more of the original’s magic, I have to acknowledge that this sequel isn’t even trying to provide that kind of fishing experience, and to judge it for not supplying something it isn’t offering would be utterly senseless.
