The Portuguese Bakery in Utrecht

As someone living in a foreign country, it’s always interesting to me to find places where I can buy food from my own country. Over the past few years, I haven’t found that many places in the Netherlands that sell Portuguese food. There’s a shop here and there, a café or restaurant here and there, but none of them are in Eindhoven, or in a place I usually come by. Recently – or maybe not that recently, maybe a few months ago – I found a Portuguese bakery and café in Utrecht, right alongside the canal, called Casa Ferreira. They have a lot of things, and I’ve been there multiple times, mostly to buy pastries, but also sandwhiches and even gifts. Because it’s mostly a takeaway place, there isn’t much room to sit and they don’t serve meals. More recently, they opened a second place in Utrecht, on Wittevrouwenstraat. This one is a real café: you can sit inside, you can sit outside, there’s plenty of seating, and they serve actual full meals instead of just pastries and other things to go.…
