The Inconvenient Corpse (1943) by Elizabeth Fenwick

Today I am looking at the first of two mysteries written by Elizabeth Fenwick, which have recently been reprinted in a Stark House Press twofer. I will be reviewing the second, Murder in Haste in my next post. The Inconvenient Corpse is part of a moderate-sized body of mysteries which involve a reunion of some kind. This might seem like rather a niche setting, but there are a surprising number of examples to be found within the annals of classic crime. Examples include: A Bullet for Rhino by Clifford Witting, Murder Noon and Night by Kelley Roos, Death Points a Finger by Will Levinrew, The Man Who Was Not There by Ethel Lina White, Make-Up for Murder by June Wright and Reunion with Murder by Timothy Fuller. The setting also appears in modern crime fiction too, such as Helle & Death by Oskar Jensen and The 12 Days of Murder by Andreina Cordani.
