I did have a bit of a problem with it from the standpoint of why. Why didn't the aliens just make themselves known? Why all the nonsense? Why traumatize two children? And I thought that the Mad Orange King's release of all(?) the video files kind of took some of the punch out of the movie. The ending was a bit of a disappointment, but I figured Spielberg had said everything he wanted to say, and I think that was the line about empathy. I think that's what resonated with me most. I go back to the fundamental flaw of our civilization is that it is based on capitalism and competition. Where does empathy fit in either of those two concepts, or the systems that evolved from them? How does the idea of merit relate to the concept of competition? Does the idea of everyone and everything being in competition with everyone and everything else inform the notion that we can rank people? Assign some arbitrary… No comments yet.
