Subconscious Biases

I like autumn and winter fashion. Everyone’s got their fashion preferences, that’s mine. Nothing wrong with that. Something I try to be mindful of, because it’s a bit more unfortunate than a preference, is that I definitely have some subconscious biases when it comes to clothes. Primarily, when I see people in autumn fashion I associate that with maturity, intelligence, and sophistication. When I see people in summer fashion or beach-ready wear, I associate that with immaturity and shallowness. Which is, uhhh, very bad! Obviously there are no assumptions you can safely make about a person based on how they dress or accessorize. That type of stereotyping has been holding us back for decades. Especially when the reason for dressing a certain way could be as simple as “so I don’t suffer from heat stroke out in the sun.” I think this subconscious bias got instilled in me from a young age from a million different sources.
