EskomSePush app transitioned to neighbourhood service disruptions otherwise it would have died

This is the story of how the app evolved from being a high demand app to manage the electricity load shedding across South Africa, to something completely different after load shedding went away. The app now helps communities crowdsource issue around their water, electricity and Internet outages, and also has channels for safety, weather, and other news in communities. As I don’t use Facebook or WhatsApp I like using EskomSePush as it is highly focussed on my own community and I can mute what is not relevant for periods of time. The closest that it comes to is Telegram, where a community channel could be split into different topics, and each muted if needed. I just have to laugh though at WhatsApp, because although it may be the biggest and most used platform, it really always lags a good year to two years behind its competitors. Sadly so many of its users only seem to use that one app, so have no idea of the benefits of other apps. See…
