Noble gesture?

Just as FIFA and Gianni Infantino were able to rise to the heights of nobelity in presenting Donald Trump with a made-up peace prize, so, as Tom Gauld suggests, they may be able to go on to honor The Art of the Deal. © Tom Gauld and The Guardian. For those anxious as to why FIFA’s name (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) should be in French when football obviously came out of Britain (more specifically in its modern passing form, Scotland), it is because FIFA was founded in 1904 to oversee international competition among the national footballing associations of France, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands. It was headquartered in Paris. It was FIFA who first came up with the idea of having a world contest. They make lots on money from the World Cup — is any further motivation required? The rather lame French designation of the game as “football association” derives from Britain though, rather obviously. I dare say they mulled over, and rejected ballon-à-pied. It’s…
