I’m fond of that You Got The Dud! scene from the Simpsons. It became a bit of a meme in recent years, largely because of the very out-of-style way that Homer’s smile slowly and smoothly grows bigger before he breaks into laughter. I agree that it’s quite funny and strange. But beyond that, something I find really charming about this little snippet is that it’s a scene where Homer and Marge are happy and completely on the same page as each other. A lot of The Simpsons revolves around conflict/antics arising because Homer and Marge are different. So it’s always fun to see those moments where they’re not only “in love” but also just getting along and in agreement like two peas in pod. It’s safe to assume that there’s plenty of mundane moments like this happening off-screen, in times that wouldn’t be funny enough to make a sitcom out of. In general, the scene reminds me of one of my favorite things about writing: the fun ways you can handle different character permutations in a group. My…
