We’ve never been well-off enough to go for an annual holiday abroad, but a couple of years ago we decided to spend a night away in a seaside resort town in the next county. The boys absolutely loved it, so we went back last year for 2 nights. For my birthday and our anniversary last year (which are less than a week apart), we had a last-minute getaway for 1 night. It was quite exciting to be spontaneous, despite my typically obsessive desire to research where to stay, what activities to book etc. We didn’t make the best use of the time, but lessons were learned and I’d happily do it again. It was my hope we’d do something a bit more special one summer - perhaps a trip on the ferry to the Netherlands? I have a fear of flying and love the sea, so this would be rather awesome! The boys are pretty keen on the idea too. However, this year we’re staying home. It really doesn’t help that the cost of accommodation, travel, activities and food skyrockets during the school holidays. It’s not…
