2026/07/21 Tuesday Been getting in touch with people, cooking up some ideas, today a friend came over to bring me back the books I had lent him, Dance of Days: Two Decades of Punk in the Nation's Capital and Touch and Go: The Complete Hardcore Punk Zine '79-'83, he also brought me one, Hans Staden: An Adventurer in the New World, originally released in the Italian magazine Corto Maltese in 1989: Jô Oliveira had his comics published in several countries (if you know a bit about comics - and I mean comics, not superheroes, you probably know Corto Maltese), they are focused on Brazilian history, and Hans Staden is about a German explorer who was captured by Brazilian natives who practiced ritual cannibalism and was held captive for eight months, and by pure luck managed to escape being eaten several times. Reading it I immediately thought of the movie How Tasty Was My Little Frenchman (1971), and it turns out the movie was inspired by Hans Staden's story. It was a cool read, very light,…
