Cannibalising my work week notes for this one. Forgive me, but life is tough in the content mines… A reflection: how I write has changed. My current work project has thrown that into focus for me. I’m working in a small crew (two other full time, two half-time) to write a report for a government department. Working out what it should say is a blended activity. Sometimes it’s conversational. Sometimes it’s a workshop. Sometimes it involves noodling on other people’s writing. Sometimes it involves realising stuff on the walk to R’s nursery, sharing that. Sometimes it’s about stumbling across the right Show The Thing in our work archives, chatting about that… you get the point. Anyway. By the time I sit down to write, I already know what I’m going to type. Broad brush-strokes at least. Going from rough headers to a few thousand words is then pretty quick. And the corollary; if I haven’t done the thinking aloud, the words don’t come. From what I know of other writers, this isn’t rare. But…
