I’ve had my eye on the Solo Game of the Month series by publisher Best With One for a while now. The concept is quite intriguing: every month, there is a new crowdfunding project that brings a new (or a re-skinning of an existing) solo game, usually in a compact box and for a very reasonable price. Between the end of the campaign and the product actually landing on your doorstep, there is usually just a couple months because the game design and art is already finished when going into the campaign. As such, Gamefound acts more as a print-on-demand pre-order services for the small, indie publisher. The most notable in the series is likely the new Deluxe Edition of Rome: Fate of an Empire by Joe Klipfel, the same the designer that did the excellent hold-it-in-your-hand card game Behold Rome. Recently, the Best With One series has really ramped up its production values, mostly thanks to their collaboration with artist Cole Munro-Chitty. The latest releases look just drop dead gorgeous ……
