I wrote this post on Facebook yesterday. In 1974 the U.S. enacted permanent Daylight Saving Time by moving the clocks forward in January. It proved to be wildly unpopular, because it turns out folks going to work in the dark and kids getting hit by school buses while waiting in the morning darkness aren’t a good thing. And the decision was reversed by the end of the 1974. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill yesterday to bring permanent DST back, because it provides “extra sunlight”. When mentioning the run over kids issue, many suggest moving school to later hours. Let’s do some math:School ending at 3:00 PM EST and sunset at 5:30 PM EST means 2 1/2 hours of sunlight after school for Johnny and Suzie. School ending at 4:00 PM EDT and sunset at 6:30 PM EDT means 2 1/2 hours of sunlight after school for Johnny and Suzie. The added benefit of the latter is now Johnny and Suzie’s natural circadian rhythms, along with everyone around them, are now out of sync with the normal…
