For a really long time now I've used Squarespace as the website host for dante.cool, but not anymore! I was kind of spurred on by Squarespace jacking up the price on a yearly subscription by 70 dollars (from $138/yr to $204/yr), but if you've been reading this blog you know I sort of have "self-hosting fever". Naturally, I had been thinking about using Hugo for a while, and this seemed like a good test of my abilities. I did look at a few other options — there is LinkStack, which is sort of a LinkTree alternative. Neat on its own regard but a bit too barebones for me. There's also Wordpress, of course, which for all of its critiques is "pretty good" these days according to a couple of my friends. And if I want this to be hosted natively on a cheap VPS in Finland I'd rather go with something super lightweight. Hugo seemed like the way to go! hugoI have never used a static site generator before so this was a learning process. I read through their pretty good quick-start documentation…
