It’s World Backup Day and I don’t have good backups. The purpose of the day is to serve as a reminder to check that your backup system is functioning, that you can restore from your backups, and that all your data is included in the backup system. It’s not like I don’t have backups of my data, it’s just they’re not backup backups, you know? I could probably find a second copy of the most important stuff, or anything I’d lose isn’t that hard to reproduce. I’ve never had a computer fail or catastrophic accident, so I’ve never had to test this theory. The only significant piece of data I self-host is my RSS subscriptions, and that data is synced to the client on my phone, so I can just re-upload the OPML file. You see what I’m like? I’m skirting around having a real system based on somewhat vague recovery assumptions. Well that changes today. Actually that changed two months ago, but I’m only writing about… No comments yet.
