Just watch the movie

Matt creates and designs some great apps, they are thoughtful, and considerate of the user. The fact his latest Micro app is called ‘That Guy’ suggests, with a subtle wink and a nod, some knowing on his part about what he has created and, whilst I laud the thinking behind it, I can’t help my gut reaction being JUST WATCH THE MOVIE! The suspension of disbelief, the ability to lose oneself once you enter the hallowed space of a movie theatre, committing to the art and skill that you’ve paid good money for, are why I think people should go to these celluloid cathedrals. I appreciate Matt has created this micro.app to be small and subtle, but even then it’s going to take you out of the experience. Surely it’s better to learn to sit and enjoy, or even sit and be bored —or if it’s that bad, get up and leave— than have a constant gentle pull away from the large screen in front of you. Buy the popcorn, get comfy, switch everything else off. The outside world, your need to ‘know’, can wait.…
